Interview with Baishampayan Ghose
Baishampayan “BG” Ghose is the Co-founder & CTO at Helpshift. I am a computer science & startup guy. My main areas of interest are functional programming, parallel & concurrent systems, algorithms, open-source software & the mobile app ecosystem. You can find him on twitter @ghoseb or interact with helpshift through twitter and facebook.
How long has it been since you started Helpshift?
I started Helpshift with my co-founder Abinash Tripathy around a year back. It’s been an extremely exciting journey so far.
What is your main role there?
Being the technical co-founder, I am responsible for leading our engineering & infrastructure team, but since we’re a startup I do other things like product management, customer support, devops, recruiting, mentoring and human resources as well.
What does 'a day in the life of BG' look like?
On a normal day I spend half of my time making things and the other half managing the team. I write and review code, contribute to architecture design, API build out, and more. My management time is spent on product, customer development & driving the team.
How did the idea for Helpshift come about and what is your team hoping to achieve?
We're all annoyed with the lack of effective customer service tools in the mobile app ecosystem. Existing tools that were originally made for the web are tastelessly being shoehorned into a 4” mobile screen. We saw a tremendous unmet need for mobile-optimized customer service and Helpshift was born. Our goal is to do customer service so well that it significantly reduces overhead for developers and creates happy mobile customers with proactive support.
What are some examples of developers or apps that have had success with your offering? We are invitation only and are signing up new companies every day. A few of the companies that have integrated Helpshift and have had success are Astrid, Lemon, and Telly.
How do I sign up for Helpshift?
Go to http://www.helpshift.com/ and sign up using the invite code “WIPVIP”. We’ll send you an invite and you can start integrating Helpshift into your app!
