Caroline Lewko, CEO, Wireless Industry Partnership (WIP)

Caroline, known as the ‘connector’, has been in the mobile industry since 1995, as a coder, funder, community builder and entrepreneur.   She started WIP in early 2006 to to give a voice to developers and to provide information and resources to make app development easier.  WIP is best known for its WIPJam and Muther! of all hackathon events, App Store Catalog (120 and  counting), and the Mobile Community Calendar.  Caroline founded WINBC (now DigiBC) in 2001, and Wavefront, a wireless commercialization center and got her start in mobile at Anderson Consulting (Accenture).  She received her MBA from DalhousieUniversityand BA from the Universityof Manitoba.     Caroline was named by Fierce Wireless as one of the Top Ten Women in Wireless for 2009.

Todd Willis, Product Development Manager, Verizon Wireless

Todd is responsible for driving new market revenue.  Currently, he is business owner of the Network API product line.  Todd joined Verizon Wireless in 2001 and has been responsible for developing and launching several products including Get It Now (BREW), Vz Navigator, and Backup Assistant.

 

Oren Levine, Senior Marketing and Strategy Manager

Oren is a senior marketing and strategy manager with extensive international experience developing and promoting enterprise and consumer software applications and solutions for mobile and web platforms. Oren spent 10 years at Nokia, holding a variety of positions in program and product management, technology marketing, and software development. Before joining Nokia, he worked for over 10 years as a software engineer and architect, gaining experience in wide range of areas including 3D graphics, machine translation, Web application development and database design.

Oren earned an M.S. degree in software engineering from NortheasternUniversityand a B.S. in mechanical engineering from MIT. He is on the board of directors of the Washington, DCchapter of MobileMonday.

 

Brian J. Friedman, CEO, NeXva

Brian has developed and implemented domestic and International mobile strategies for over fifteen years, leading several companies in the wireless space including: a mobile distribution pioneer; a finance company funding new wireless carriers; and one of the first mobile e-commerce and application transaction sites. Currently, Brian is CEO of neXva, a technology enabled App distribution platform that enables App developers to market, merchandise and monetize their mobile applications. Brian is a frequent speaker on mobile App developer issues and solutions.

 

Josh Rochlin, CEO, Xtify

Josh was an early pioneer in the New York Internet venture community, founding MyCalendar.com and serving as its CEO before selling it to Sports Huddle in 2001 (now owned by CBS). Josh then led business development and strategy at GoAmerica (GOAM), the first wireless internet service provider (now Purple Communications). Prior to joining Xtify, Josh served as the Chief Administrative Officer at Marc Ecko Enterprises, where he oversaw all non-apparel businesses and ventures. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Josh practiced law at international law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf, LLP. Josh serves on the board of directors of AVTV Networks and has previously served on the boards of Al Ahram Beverages and Hydron Technologies. He holds a B.A. from ColumbiaCollegeand a law degree from Columbia University School of Law.

Tom Deryckere, Director of Technology, ConsumerSearch (part of About.com & the New York Times)

Starting as research Engineer at GhentUniversity(Belgium), Tom entered the mobile space by studying the correlations between wireless network quality and the perceived experience of the mobile user. He continued developing transcoding technologies to assist with the creation of user friendly mobile websites and soon started exploring the opportunities provided by modern mobile browsers. As consultant in New York, he handcrafted several mobile websites and contributed heavily to the adoption of mobile within the Drupal community. Currently his focus is on the creation of technology strategies covering both native as browser based experiences.

Michael J Martinez, Founder, Appalachian Apps

Mike founded Digicel, Inc. in April 1999. Digicel is comprised of 4 retail locations in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Kingstonand LancasterPennsylvania.  From 1986-1999, he worked with Pennsylvania American Water Company.

He founded Founded Appalachian Apps, LLC January 2010. Appalachian Apps core application is Rah Digga’s Straight Spittin. A Hip Hop Battle Rap Application combining aspects of gaming and social networking. Straight Spittin competed in AT&T’s Open Call Contest and Microsoft's Fast Pitch Contest this March at CTIA and took First Placeand First Runner Up respectively. Most recently at Nokia’s $10M Calling All Innovators Contest, Straight Spittin garnered a 3rd place finish in the Entertainment Category.

Mike is a Penn State University Graduate in Electrical Engineering Technology.

Rob Groot, Director Product Management, Neustar

Rob has a long history in the mobile application and location based services industry. He developed & launched the first location based mobile social networking site in 2003 in Europe, LocationXS. The solution encompassed text messaging blended with Carrier Location lookup. Before launching LocationXS he ran professional services for a Silicon Valleyinternet startup that had a very successful IPO in 1999. For Neustar Rob Groot manages the developer facing community and product lines in the Intelligent Cloud team.

Joe Ariganello, Senior Solutions Manager, Neustar

Joe has deep experience in the mobile applications space, including running the mobile games business for Sprint Nextel and his own mobile gaming company, KA9 Media. For Neustar, Joe helps market the Intelligent Cloud solution to attract new partners and developers.

Lars Hard, Founder and CTO,  Expertmaker

Lars is a frequent speaker at events like TEDx and conferences. Lars is a serial entrepreneur in ventures relating to Artificial Intelligence and also founded Scandinavia's first games development company. When not working at Expertmaker he teaches biology inspired mathematics at LundUniversity. Expertmaker is an artificial intelligence tools software company. It offers state of the art AI tools that are simple to use enabling anyone, even without pre-knowledge of AI to create advanced AI solutions for various search problems like humanlike recommendations, diagnosis and virtual assistants.

 

Kurt Santayana, Partner, Business Development, Appalachian Apps, LLC

Applications Sales Consultant at Lucent Technologies/ AT&T Business Systems. Kurt has 20 years of telecommunications experience and sales experience of emerging technologies

Partner, Parente Randolph.  He founded the Telecommunications Consulting Group that provided various services within the industry. Which included network/ CPEsolutions, contract negotiations and Facility Management Services.

 

Scott Jensen, Vice President of Digital Product; Applications, The Weather Channel

As vice president of digital product, applications, for The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC), Scott Jensen is responsible for defining the strategy and managing all aspects of TWCC’s mobile, desktop and interactive television products globally. With 16 years experience of forming and profitably growing media and technology companies, Scott has successfully launched digital content and initiated partnerships with world-class brands for motion pictures, television, Internet and mobile devices. He has held positions with Nokia, Inc, Vindigo (formerly known as Zingy), Hands-On Mobile (formerly Mforma), and NuvoStudios. Previously, Scott founded and sold an online fantasy sports company, helped launch the first online film festival with The Sundance Institute, and practiced as an entertainment lawyer.

Scott has served as a strategic advisor, as mobile advisory board member for the Games Developers Conference, and on the MMA’s privacy committee. He received a juris doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angelesand a bachelor’s degree in political science from RutgersUniversity, and he is an active member of the State Bar of California.

Deepen Shah, Entrepreneur

With over 9 years experience in innovating marketing technologies through 3 successful startups to date, Deepen Shah, is a noted expert in the emerging adoption of internet technologies for media properties and consumers. Deepen was previously CTO and co-founder of the social cityguide, "buzzd", backed by the Blackberry Partners Fund, Qualcomm Ventures, Greycroft and Monitor Ventures. Prior to buzzd, in 2006 Deepen co-founded FanBridge, an email / social marketing platform for musicians and bands, that currently supports over 120 million fans. Deepen started his entrepreneurial career by founding Eztxtmsg, an online self-service marketing tool, in 2003 which he sold to ipsh! and Omnicom (NYSE: OMC) in 2005. Deepen's other entrepreneurial projects include co-founding the non-profit interfaith project Dialogue in Action, and being a seed investor in various internet start-ups.

Deepen graduated from New YorkUniversity's Stern School of Business with a BS in Information Systems and Finance.  He frequently guest lectures at business schools around the country on entrepreneurship, mobile marketing, and mobile technology.

Jesse Silver holds a Bachelors of Science degree with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from BabsonCollege. After surviving for years in New York Cityas a Boston Red Sox fan, Jesse has moved to SoCal where he is already skating, biking and playing volleyball like a native.

Lance Nanek, Developer Evangelist, HTC.

Lance has ten years of experience in information technology: implementing web metrics for ibm.com at IBM, writing Java web applications at State University of New York System Administration, and working on Android apps for many companies, including CardioTrainer by WorkSmart Labs with over three million downloads. He has a master's degree in Computer Science from State University of New York University at Albany.
